The Department of Radiology is a well equipped and well staffed unit which provides services round the clock. The department is run by six radiologists and two sonologists along with ten radiographers.

There are four major x-ray units situated in four rooms. Two of  these units have facilities of image intensification. There are five portable x-ray units for emergency services of critically ill patients admitted in the hospital.

More than 50,000 radiological investigations are done yearly. These include routine x-rays and special investigations like

  • Barium Swallow, Barium Meal, Barium Enema
  • Cholecystography, Cholangiography, PTC
  • Venacavography, Sialography
  • Urography, Cystourethrography, Hystosalpingography
  • Myelography, Sinography, Angiography
  • Dental Studies

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI is relatively a new medical technology that uses a strong Magnetic field and radio frequency waves to create images of human body. Less than two decades old, clinical MRI provides diagnostic power far beyond that of radiographic density or any other technique of imaging. Besides this, it has the added advantage of imaging in multiple planes without exposing the body to harmful ionizing radiation.

GE SIGMA MR/i is a highly sophisticated and  very powerful 1.0 Tesla highfield super conducting system designed to provide high quality clinical performance. Its non-resonant gradient enables TE times as short as  .9m sec, 3D slices as thin as .1mm and EPI scans as short as 64sec. This systems handles a broad range of clinical applications and is capable of rapid sub second imaging and diffusion weighted studies, which allow early detection of strokes.

MR Applications

Brain:

Diagnostic modality of choice in congenital disorders, brain tumors, infections, white matter diseases and vascular malformations. MRI is now the preferred modality in lesions of middle and posterior cranial fossa.

Spinal Disorders:
  • Disorders of vertebrae and the invertebral discs
  • direct visualization of pathologies of spinal cord with multiplanar bone artifact free imaging is possible with MRI.
  • Pathology of cranio-vertebral junction can now be better evaluated with MRI.

Musculoskeletal System

  • For disorders of shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee and ankle joints.

Pelvis

  • For pathology of Uterus and Adnexa.

Mediastinum

  • For pathology of mediastinal vascular structures.

Special Features

  • MR Angiography

Vascular Imaging without the use of contrast media and without any need to hospitalize the patient.

  • MR Cholangiopancreaticography

A special technique which allows imaging of the biliary system without any endoscopy.

  • MR Urography

Imaging of the Renal Tracts avoiding the risk of contrast injection.

  • MR Myelography

Imaging of spinal canal avoiding the pain and other side effects of injections.

 Other Diagnostic Imaging Techniques Available:

  • CT Scan

A CAT Scan unit is functional in this department since 1990. We have a Shimadzu SCT-3000T whole body scanner with 3D reconstruction facility which provides services to about 40 hospitals in Delhi. Its a very sophisticated unit with excellent backup service.

  • Mammaography

2 GE Stenograph 500T for:

-Screening and early detection of breast cancers.

-Stereotactic biopsy and localization facility for breast cancers.

  • Colour Doppler

Hewlett Packard Image-point Colour Doppler for Carotid, Renal and Peripheral vascular imaging.

  • Ultrasound

5 Ultrasound machines for general and obstetrics ultrasound besides interventional procedures.

  • Echocardiography

GE Wingmed CFM 800 SV echocardiography machine with TEE probe and stress echo package.
