- What is
Radiography?
- Radiography is a
rewarding profession for someone seeking to work as part of a
hospital team in a scientific environment. If you enjoy caring
for others and have an interest in technology you will find the
work satisfying and enjoyable. The course also offers you the
best of technical knowledge. You will be training in diagnostic
imaging which involves the production of images that are used to
aid diagnosis and patient care. This may involve the use of
X-rays or other methods such as U.S.G., M.R.I. and C.T. Scan.
You will be trained to produce the highest quality images while
providing the necessary care for your patient.
- Brief
description of the Course
- Ordinarily the
course in Radio-diagnostic Technology commences in August and
extends over a period of two years. The students will have a
probation period of one month during which the probation
examination is conducted. Christian Medical Association of India
(C.M.A.I.) conducts a final examination on the first Monday of
June for 1st and 2nd years. Upon completion of the course and
having passed all the examinations the candidate will be
eligible for Diploma from the C.M.A.I. The medium of instruction
is English. Knowledge and ability to converse in Hindi are also
essential. The candidate must be able to speak, read and write
English well. The course covers a series of class room lectures
and discussions combined with practical guided training of
various techniques of imaging procedures.

Teaching and
Learning Method
- An important part
of this course is the integration of the academic work with the
structured clinical work. The teaching of this unit will be
shared by the academic and clinical staff.
Eligibility
- Basic educational
qualification 10+2 or equivalent from recognised university or
Board of Examination with science and physics.
- Age should not be
less than 18 years as on 1.8.2000
- The candidate must
have good knowledge of English, as the medium of instruction is
English.
- Selection to the
course will be strictly on merit.
- Sponsored
candidates, from Christian Mission Hospital's will be given
special consideration.
- Only those found
to be medically fit in the Medical Examination at St Stephen's
Hospital will be admitted to the course.

Diploma
in Medical Laboratory Technology
- The
Course is conducted by the Indian Medical Association (I.M.A.)
and is recognised by the D.G.H.S., Government of India.
- The
course is an in-service training programme. The student is
provided with class room teaching and supervised practical
experience. Throughout the training period the students gain
practical experience by participating in the routine
departmental work through a series of postings in the various
sections of the laboratory. The work of the students is
supervised by the trained staff working in the various sections.
This 'hands-on' training gives the student valuable experience
by the time the course is over.
- The
students will have a probationary period of three months after
which the probation examinations are conducted. Only successful
candidates are allowed to continue the course.
- Periodic
internal examination are conducted regularly and the performance
is evaluated along with first year examinations. Those students
who fail to satisfy the evaluation committee are detained for a
period of six months.
- Final
examinations are conducted by the Indian Medical Association (I.M.A.)
after eighteen months of training. Successful candidates are
selected for internship for period of six months.
- This
course is a hospital based course. Like all hospital staff,
students will be exposed to patients with communicable diseases
and students have to process biological samples.
Course
Duration
Course
commences in November and extends for a period of one and half years
with six months of internship. Certificates are issued only after
the successful completion of internship.
The Training programme is divided into three segments:
- Three months
orientation.
- Training period -
18 months
- Post examination
internship - 6 months
Eligibility
- Students have to
be in the age limit of 17 to 25 years on August 1st.
- Basic minimum
qualification prescribed is 10 + 2 pass or its equivalent with
Physics, Chemistry, Biology.
- The selection
procedure is made on the basis of merit, academic performance,
aptitude and medical fitness.
- Application form

- Decision of the
Selection Committee will be final.

What
is Medical Record Technology?
Medical
Record Technology is a field that has a wide spectrum of functions
in a healthcare facility. It is an important field as it plays a
vital role in providing health information to the medical staff and
assists the management to plan and organize patient care. A great
deal of interest has been generated in this field recently because
of the awareness of the importance of the medico-legal aspects of
medical records.
Brief
Description of the Course
To
organize a Medical Records Department, it is essential to have
personnel trained in medical record technology. This course is
designed to teach all aspects of Medical Record Technology by means
of covering topics such as Medical Record Science, Anatomy and
Physiology, Medical Terminology, Bio-statistics & Hospital
Administration, Coding of Diseases & Operations and Computer
Operations in its curriculum.

The
course is conducted by the Christian Medical Association of India (C.M.A.I.)
and is run in accordance with their guidelines by St. Stephen's
Hospital, Delhi. Rules and regulations framed by C.M.A.I. and St.
Stephen's Hospital for this purpose will be binding on the students.
Course
Duration
The
course is of 15 months' duration. At the end of 12 months of
training, a common final examination is conducted by C.M.A.I.
Successful candidates are then required to undertake internship for
a period of 3 months. The Diploma will be issued to the successful
students after satisfactory completion of internship.

in Ophthalmic Technology
An Ophthalmic Technician is trained to
assist the eye Surgeon in all aspects of Ophthalmology including
refraction, OPD procedures, ophthalmic nursing and community
ophthalmology. The Diploma course in Ophthalmic Technology is
recognized by Christian Medical Association of India and conducted
according to CMAI guidelines.
Objectives
- To prepare the
students to assist the eye Specialist in outdoor eye camps as
well as OPD in the hospital.
- To enable the
students to assist the Eye Surgeon in Ophthalmic surgery.
- To familiarize
them with various types of eye equipments, Community,
Ophthalmology, and first aid measures in Ophthalmology.
- To equip them with
basic knowledge of General Anatomy and Physiology and disease
related to the eye, including nursing methods in OPD, and
theatre techniques.
- To enable them to
become acquainted with ophthalmic emergencies.

students to estimate errors of refraction.

The main objective is

in Anaesthesia Technology
The Diploma course in
anaesthesia technology is recognised by Christian Medical
Association of
India and is conducted on CMAI guidelines.
Aims
- Anaesthesia
is one of the branches of medical science which has come to the
forefront of development, with the advent of modern anaesthesia
machines and monitoring equipment. The anaesthetists undertake
patient care for very advanced surgeries on very sick patients -
the age group ranging from the premature new born to the old,
sick and moribund. This requires skilled anaesthesia and
post-operative care which can be achieved only by the help of
well trained and competent anaesthesia technician.
- The
aim of the anaesthesia technician course is to train personnel
to assist the anaesthetists in the various modalities of patient
care in the operation room, recovery room, intensive care room
and whenever the procedures are done under anaesthesia. They are
also trained to take care and maintain various anaesthesia
equipment.

Duration
- Duration of the
course is 2 years and the medium of instruction is English.
- Image
IntensifiersAt the end of each year examination will be
conducted by the CMAI board.
- Candidates should
be willing to carry out work assigned to them as situation
demands which include training during emergency hours under the
supervision of the seniors.

Certificate
Course in Cardio Pulmonary Technology
St. Stephen's Hospital is training
Cardio-Pulmonary Technicians in ECG, ECHO, TMT, Pulmonary Function
tests and to assist in the Cardiac Cath-Lab.
Duration
Duration of the course will be 1 year followed by six months of
compulsory
internship. Certificate will be issued only after the completion of
internship.
Objectives
- To teach the
students basic Anatomy and Physiology related to the heart and
lungs in health and disease.
- To familiarize the
students with the functions of various equipment used for the
management of patients with cardio - pulmonary disease.
- To teach them, to
assist physicians in electrocardiography Treadmill test,
Echo-Doppler, Cardiac lab procedures and Pulmonary function
tests.
- Training in basic
life support, ECG recording, TMT and Pulmonary function test.
Eligibility and Selection
- Basic educational
qualification is 10 + 2 or equivalent from any recognised
Education Board. (Science subjects preferred )
- Selection will be
based on merit. Candidates who pass the written test will be
called for the interview. The decision of the selection
committee shall be final and binding and no correspondence will
be entertained regarding this matter.
