AHP Courses

Training is an integral part of the mission of  the Hospital. In fact, the Mission Statement mentions that one of the  objectives of the Hospital is "to train doctors, nurses, midwives and  other paramedical and administrative personnel and to conduct medical  research. The Hospital conducts several formal and  informal training programmes.

St. Stephen's Hospital has been nurturing health education since its inception in 1885 inthe form of nursing education, first informally and thereafter formally. St. Stephen's Hospital has always been committed to educational programmes. Even as early as 1867, the founder, Mrs. Priscilla Winter, was involved in training women to conduct safe deliveries at home and to look after the disabled and elderly.

With a view to utilize our enormous wealth of patients and state-of-the-art medical equipment, our allied health professional courses were started for training young men and women as professionals in the field of healthcare. At present we have allied health training programmes in 7 disciplines. We aim at comprehensive personality development of our students as well as their professional advancement. In all humility we can claim that our students have, so far, received rich benefits by joining our training programmes. It is our hope that those who get trained here may achieve not only professional competence but also the attitude of caring for the sick and the suffering with compassion.

Selection Procedure

Selection of candidates is done in a 3-stage process that comprises a written test, interview and medical examination. Teaching Methods A unique aspect of all these courses is the integration of academic work with structured clinical work.It involves a series of classroom lectures and discussions combined with guided practical training in the various techniques and procedures as it applies to each course. The students are trained by senior doctors, tutors and technicians in the departments rather than just in classrooms. Throughout the training period, students gain practical experience by participating in routine departmental work through a series of postings in the various sections of the concerned department. The students are supervised by trained staff working in these sections. This hands-on training gives the student invaluable experience and ensures that when they complete their course, they are fully equipped to handle the concerned equipment or tasks independently. Merits Students of the Hospital have frequently secured top ranks at the all-India level in the Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI)and Indian Medical Association (IMA) examinations. Our students are highly sought after for employment by other hospitals. Their intensive practical training makes them immediately employable.
